About ColorID
ColorID tells you what color something is, what it is called and which paint matches it. On this site it reads colors from photos and codes; in the app it reads them live from the camera. Both use the same color library and the same matching code.
What you can do here
- Read any spot of a photo and get its name, HEX, RGB, CMYK, LAB, RAL and Pantone codes and the closest paint.
- Find the same color in 35 paint brands, compare light reflectance (LRV) and browse colors by family and room.
- Generate palettes, pull one from a photo, save, name and export them.
- See a photo the way people with color blindness see it, take a two-part color vision test and switch the whole site to a color blind mode.
- Convert between color codes, with every value one click from your clipboard.
Where the colors come from
The library holds 61,617 paint colors from 35 brands, all 213 RAL Classic colors and the Pantone, RAL Design and RAL Effect sets, compiled from the makers’ public color lists. Every match is measured as ΔE2000 in CIELAB, the industry’s standard distance between two colors, so “very close” means the same thing on every page.
Built with color blind users
Many people who use the ColorID app are color blind and use it to check colors they cannot tell apart. They asked for colors named in plain words, for filters they can use every day and for a site that works without relying on color alone. The color blind mode adds names and patterns next to colors instead of changing the colors themselves, which follows the WCAG rule that color must never be the only signal.
Your photos stay with you
