How to use it

  1. Type or paste a HEX code (#2F6DB5), an RGB value (47, 109, 181) or pick a color.
  2. Read its name three ways: a plain name, the ISCC-NBS color name and the nearest CSS color name.
  3. See the closest paint color too, with its brand.
  4. Copy any code in your preferred format, or open the color in the other tools.

Questions

Where do the names come from?

From the ISCC-NBS system, a set of 267 color names developed by the Inter-Society Color Council and the US National Bureau of Standards, and from the CSS color names used on the web.

What is a plain name?

One of 31 simple names, such as light gray or dark green, built for color blind readers. The ColorID app uses the same set in its color blind mode.

Can two colors have the same name?

Yes. Each name covers a range of colors, so nearby colors share it.
