Guides
- How to match a paint color from a photoMatch a wall, a cushion or a tile to a paint color from a photo: how to take the picture, where to tap, how to read ΔE, why light changes everything and when to buy a sample.
- What is LRV in paint?LRV, light reflectance value, tells you how much light a paint color reflects, from 0 for black to 100 for white. What the numbers mean in a room, how they are measured and how to use them.
- Types of color blindnessThe types of color blindness, from deuteranomaly to achromatopsia: which cones are affected, which colors get confused, how common each is, how it is inherited and how it is tested.

How the color is read
ColorID reads the pixels under the loupe, averages a small area and converts it to CIELAB. It then finds the nearest color in each catalog by ΔE2000, the same distance the ColorID app uses. Light changes everything: a wall under a yellow bulb reads warmer, so compare against something white in the same photo.
How matching worksQuestions
How accurate is it?
As accurate as the photo. Flat daylight and a frame filled with the surface give the closest reading.
Does my photo get uploaded?
No. The photo is read in your browser and never leaves the device.
Which codes do I get?
HEX, RGB, CMYK, HSV, LAB, the nearest RAL and Pantone, and the closest paint in 35 brands.
